The talk
History is full of leaders who rose in the hardest moments by holding to their values instead of reaching for power. Lincoln returning to the idea that all men are created equal to hold a fracturing nation together. Rosa Parks and the quiet courage that moved a country. Jonas Salk choosing the next generation's health over his own gain.
I keep a collection of pocket Bibles carried by soldiers from the Revolutionary War to today for the same reason I give this talk. They are proof of what people hold onto when everything else is stripped away, and proof that the hard calls in front of us have been made before, by people who did not have the benefit of knowing how it would turn out.
This talk pulls the playbook forward. It takes the decisions a room is facing now, in a business or a community, and sets them beside the leaders who faced their own version and chose service over self. The past is not nostalgia. It is a set of decisions already tested.
The through line is the one I always come back to. The leaders we still talk about are the ones who served something larger than themselves. That is the whole inheritance, and it is there for anyone willing to pick it up.
What the room is buying
The steadiness that comes from knowing a hard decision is not unprecedented, and a values-first way to make it, drawn from history and from the objects Chris has spent years collecting.
45 to 60 minutes. For leadership audiences, universities, and values-driven organizations.
