The talk
I played offensive line, the position nobody claps for, where the whole job is protecting somebody else. Then I built four companies, and every one of them ran on what I learned in a locker room more than what I learned in a boardroom.
My college coach, RC Slocum, gave us a rule. Before you point fingers, use your thumbs. Take the blame before you spread it. He gave us TEAM, Together Each Achieves More, and he drilled the things that never show up in a box score, how you handle adversity, how you carry a win, how you answer for a loss.
This talk walks a room through how a real team forms. Not with slogans, but with people who decide to cover for each other because they trust the person next to them will do the same. That is service turning into trust, and trust is what a championship team runs on.
It is the argument at the center of my book TEAM WORKS!, built for the room in front of me, whether that room is a sales floor, a leadership offsite, or a company trying to become a team instead of a collection of talent.
What the room is buying
A clear picture of what turns a group of talented people into a team that wins, and the language to build it, from a career that started on the offensive line and ran through four exits.
45 to 60 minutes, expandable to a workshop. For companies, sales teams, and leadership offsites.
As a standout football player at Texas A&M and an NFL player, he learned what it takes for talented individuals to trust one another, communicate clearly, and put the team’s success first.
